My Story
Hi
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.
The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer (GKCC) Trust is a charity I feel passionate about. Even though I don't have any children myself, I dread the thoughts of any of my family, friends and colleigues ever having to recieve a horrible diagnosis on their children and it is with them in my mind i do this.
So......why a wing walk? I am a firm believer that if you are sponsoring someone to do an event, they should be pusing themselves in one way or another. Even though I have done a sky dive, a wing walk is pushing my levels of trust and fear that i will have never experienced before. I have no control at all, I am in the hands of a pilot while being strapped to the wing - this is something that I find as a hard concept to deal with and get my head around.
In those moment when I am being strapped onto the plane, I will feel fear that I have never felt before yet after I have taken off I will get an adreneneline rush - the parents that have a child that is diagnosed with cancer only feel that fear and have a long road before feeling the adrenaline rush when hopefully the child is given the all clear.
It is horriffic when an adult is diagnosed with cancer however, at least an adult has had a chance to live their lives and can understand what they are being put through in terms of treatment. A child is at the start of their life and will miss out on opportunities to experience 'normal' things with their friends and family.
What GKCC do is educate and support parents and their children. They help educate people spot the early signs and also educate the family about the diagnosis. They even help fund treatment abroad in some cases and this is amazing work that they do.
Everyone that knows me knows that I am not particuarly emotional however, Michelle Nolan (member of the GKCC team) told myself and Dave Pagett (another supporter) on the way to our sky dive last year the story of Grace and how the charity came about we were all in tears in the car and it re-inforced why we / I support this charity.
Anything at all that you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
